Warm up your kitchen this winter! Try one of Granni39's recipes shown here. They've all been time-tested AND kid-tested, so you can bake them with confidence.

EASY MIX COOKIE BARS

2 eggs.....................3 cups all-purpose flour
2 cups packed brown sugar..1 tsp. cinnamon
1 cup shortening...........1 tsp. baking soda
1 cup raisins..............1 tsp. baking powder
1 cup boiling water

Measure all ingredients into 3-4 qt. mixing bowl in order listed. Do not stir until all are in bowl. Beat thoroughly. Spread out 1/4 inch thick on large greased cookie sheet. Bake at 375 F about 20 minutes or to a rich brown. Drizzle confectioner's frosting over cookies while hot. Cut into 2 inch bars.

*CONFECTIONER'S FROSTING: Combine 1-1/4 cup powdered sugar with 1 tsp. vanilla and 1/4 cup liquid (milk, water or lemon or orange juice.) Mix until smooth and spread on cake or cookies.

PEANUT BUTTER COOKIES

2-1/2 cups flour...............1 cup granulated sugar
1/2 tsp. baking soda...........1 cup packed brown sugar
1 tsp. baking powder..........2 eggs, slightly beaten
1/2 cup margarine(not spread)..1 cup peanut butter
1/2 cup butter.................2 tsp. vanilla

Sift together flour, soad & baking powder. Cream sugars until soft & well blended, but not fluffy. Add eggs, margarine, butter & peanut butter to the sugars. Mix thoroughly. Add flour mixture. Knead in bowl only long enough to form a smooth dough. Roll into 1 inch balls & place on ungreased cookie sheets, 1 inch apart. Press with tines of for, (dipped occasionally in flour) to make criss-crosses. Bake at 375 F for 10-12 minutes. Makes about 7 dozen cookies.

RUM BALLS

1 cup crushed vanilla wafers....2 tbsp. light corn syrup
1 cup powdered sugar............1/4 cup rum
1-1/2 cups chopped pecans.......1/2 cup granulated sugar
2 tbsp. cocoa powder............red candled cherry halves

Mix crumbs, powdered sugar, 1 cup of the nuts & cocoa. Add corn syrup & rum. Mix well. Shape into 1" balls. Roll half
in granulated sugar & remainder in the 1/2 cup nuts, Moisten cut sides of cherry halves with syrup & press one on each sugar-coated rum ball.
Makes about 3 dozen. Store tightly covered.

WANITA'S LEMON BARS

CRUST:
2 cups flour................1 cup melted oleo
1/2 cup powdered sugar

Mix well & press into 9X13" pan. Bake at 350 F 20 minutes.

FILLING:
4 tbsp. flour...............2 cups white sugar
4 eggs......................4 tbsp. lemon juice
grated lemon rind from 1 lemon

Combine sugar, flour, lemon juice & rind. Beat the eggs and add. Pour over crust & bake 20 minutes. Cool & sprinkle with sifted powdered sugar.

SCHOOLDAY RAISIN COOKIES

3/4 cup raisins
1 egg, slightly beaten
1-1/2 cups uncooked rolled oats
3/4 cup sifted flour
3/4 cup packed brown sugar
1-1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 cup cool melted shortening
3/4 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. maple flavoring

Combine oats & sugar. Stir in shortening & egg. Sift together flour, baking powder & salt. Add to first mixture. Stir in maple flavoring & raisins. Drop by teaspoonfuls onto greased baking sheet. Bake in hot 400 F oven 8-10 minutes. Remove to wire rack to cool. About 3 dozen cookies.

LOUELLA'S SNICKERDOODLES

1 cup softened shortening
1-1/2 cups sugar
2 eggs
2-2/3 cups sifted flour
2 tsp. cream of tartar
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
2 tsp. cinnamon and 2 tbsp. sugar combined

Blend shortening, sugar & eggs. Combine flour, cream of tartar, soda & salt. Sift into shortening mixture. Mix well; shape into small balls, then roll in cinnamon/sugar mixture. Place 2" apart on ungreased cookie sheets. Bake at 400 F for 10-12 minutes. Makes 5 dozen.

GERRY'S MEXICAN WEDDING CAKES

1/2 lb. butter.......1/2 lb. ground pecans
4 tbsp. sugar........2 cups flour
2 tsp. vanilla.......powdered sugar

Cream butter & sugar. Add vanilla, flour & nuts. Mix well with hands. Roll into small balls & shape into crescents. Bake at 350 F 20 minutes. Roll in powdered sugar while hot and again when cooled.

POPPYSEED COOKIES

4 eggs..............4 cups flour
3/4 cups sugar........1-1/2 tsp. baking powder
1 cup vegetable oil.......1 tsp. salt
1/2 cup poppy seeds

Beat 3 of the eggs, sugar & oil. Add seeds & dry ingredients. Mix well. Roll thin & cut out. Place on greased cookie sheets. Brush with one beaten egg. Bake at 350 F for 10-12 minutes About 6 dozen.

GRANNI'S NOTE:

*Confectioner's Frosting recipe included with "Easy Mix Cookie Bars" can be used to frost sugar cookies. Decrease amount of liquid to 1 tablespoon, adding a little as necessary until spreading consistency.
